The Green Man Brew Project incorporates interiors of the three story, 20,000 square foot packaging hall, brewtique and indoor/outdoor top floor taproom overlooking both production and the Blue Ridge Mountains on the South Slope of Asheville, NC.
Having done personal residential work with Wendy and Dennis Thies, we were honored to take on the interiors at the ‘to be built’ three story Green Man Brewery. This venue clearly redefined the work ‘custom’ for me, pushing the launch button to collaborate with local artists, a reaffirmation that you can truly create in this field. Custom tables, custom benches and barstools, custom lighting, custom artwork and murals, all on a huge scale. Opening at main entrance with a 27’ high custom stone mosaic mural, designed in collaboration with Marc Archambaut of Hammerhead Stoneworks, this tribute to Green Man set the tone for the site. David Humphries of Square Peg brought our table and bench designs to life, all at bar top height in a myriad of woods and finishes, topping tables with hand wrought steel and zinc surfaces. Steel and concrete artists added yet another dimension to wall ledge tables and accent tables and restroom trough sinks.
Jeremy Russell and Scott Allred of Brushcan, outrageously creative Asheville muralists joined forces to brainstorm, design and paint the walls of the Brew. Scott David Smith was commissioned to tackle the three story stairwells in the legendary Green Man labeled beer graphics. Lighting, took a two pronged approach. Oversized glass spheres in multiples meander the curve of both main and third level bars while center taproom fixtures, created in tandem with Robert Nicholas of Splurge, had their earthly beginnings from the skeletal frame of an old silo, a pile of tobacco sticks, and an old Zinc bin. Repurposed materials, rustic elements, used to create custom lighting reminiscing one of beer bubbles blowing from an old washtub, a high flying Japanese box kite, a chandelier offering up not one crystal, all adding pure whimsy to the site.
Penny cladded stair landings tie to copper elements of bartops, a rock building game table, a connect to our native mountains, created to simply add a smile. Grand Opening realized on St. Patricks Day, 2016.
Project Date: 2015-2016
